The Terp's 6-8, 195 pound Freshman Forward from Suwon, South Korea is trading in final exams and study hall for big money and the fast life. After consulting with friends, family and Maryland Head Coach Gary Williams, Kim made his final decision to make the jump to the pros. Kim was the first South Korean to earn a men's basketball scholarship at the Division I level. He averaged a solid 1.6 points, 1.1 rebounds, and .2 blocks per game during the 2008-09 season for the Terps.
Part of Kim's decision was based on his lack of playing time, not appearing in 14 games throughout the season. "Neal [Dave] and Milbourne [Landon] have nothing on me. They only play because they practice hard, I save my magic for the games", Kim explained. "I could have carried us to the Final Four, but now my goal is winning an NBA Championship".
When asked where he would prefer to play in the NBA Kim said, "The Detroit Pistons. My hero is Tayshaun Prince, he has a similar height and build to me and he is showing how he can get it done in the NBA everyday." Detroit is slated for the 16th and 46th picks in the draft.
Well let me be the first to say goodbye and goodluck to our boy Jin Soo Kim. Helluva season kid, helluva season. I hope this kid is mature well beyond his years, because I have a feeling the money, fast cars, drugs and beautiful women could target this upstanding young South Korean. God speed Jin Soo Kim!
