I'll start off by saying I'm a huge scary movie fan, I love them. However, I had seen the previews for "Drag Me to Hell" and I had no intention of seeing it, it didn't do anything for me. It didn't look particularly scary, plus it was only rated PG-13.
The other day I was listening to the Big O and Dukes show on 106.7 and they were raving about how great this movie was. They said they couldn't believe it wasn't rated R and that it was legitimately frightening...so, I decided I wanted to check it out.
Big O and Dukes loved the opening scene with the little boy, but I thought it was a little hokie and didn't love it. Although there was woman in our row, who let out a loud scream about 2 minutes into the film. But I thought the opening scene was a little too fake for me.
However, the next 15-20 minutes with the old woman in the bank and the parking garage were fantastic! That was a good 20 solid minutes of me thinking to myself, "What the f*ck is going on?!" (in a good way) I don't know where this old woman came from, but these 20 minutes or so with her were the highlight of the movie for me.
With any demon movie, I feel like there are always some things that are super fake, which I can't stand. However, I thought this was kept to a minimum, which is obviously a good thing. The opening scene, I didn't love and the scene when the exorcism took place was ok, not great...other than that, the rest was pretty good.
I went into this movie with pretty low expectations, but was pleasantly surprised. If you like scary movies, you will like this one. There are constantly things jumping out when you're not expecting it, and the old woman, you reappears throughout the movie, is pretty terrifying. I think the old woman probably pukes on the girl or into the girls mouth no less than 4 times.
Again, I wasn't expecting much from this movie, but I thought it was worth all $12.
