I don't think the Toronto Blue Jays have been getting enough attention for their free fall in the AL East from 1st to 3rd place. They were making headlines when they were in 1st place and now seem to fly under the radar because nobody expects them to do anything. Thats not the way it works on the Flapjack.
On May 18th the Jays sat atop the AL East with a 27-14 record, riding a 4 game win streak, and a comfortable 3.5 games ahead of the Red Sox. The early season pressure built up for Toronto and exploded over the next 9 games.
The Jays lost their next 9 games here are the stats:
Swept by 3 teams: Boston, Atlanta, Baltimore
Outscored 53-23 by their opponents
Shutout once, and allowed double digit run totals against them in two games (10, 12 runs)
On May 28th the Jays found themselves 2 games out of 1st place with a 27-23 record. Nice work boys, leave the AL East fight for the heavy hitters (Red Sox, Yankees) and try to stay out of the way for the rest of the season.
Ironically the team that started the 9 game losing streak ended it, Boston (figures), with the Jays winning 6-3.
