I wasn't going to post anything about this until the streak ends, but I couldn't resist. The Yankees, best known for their power driven offense, are making headlines for something else these days; Errorless Defense.
That's right, the Bronx Bombers might as well each have their gloves spray painted in Gold, because they are killing it in the field. In last night's win against the Indians, capping off a 5-2 road trip, the Yankees surpassed the 2006 Boston Red Sox for the most consecutive games without committing an error. Last night's flawless game put the Bombers at 18 games straight with a perfect fielding percentage. How fitting we blitzed the Red Sox, we are just showing off now and letting them know we are better at everything. Championships, being clutch, and now defense.
I think the obvious difference here is Mark Teixeira at 1st base. If you watch the games every night you would notice he makes some plays on throws from Jeter, A-Rod, Cano, that Giambi would have let sail into the stands. Teixeira makes it look easy, but he deserves a lot of credit for this streak. Lets push it to 19 tonight against Texas. Go Yanks!
